Nigeria Kindness Movement
"Whoever it may be that you are in a position to help, that person
is your neighbour, so take good care of him or her" goes the wording
of an age-long Nigerian folk song. This concept has been the
unalloyed mindset of the founders of the Pan-African Reconciliation
Centre and has made them imbibe hook, line and sinker the
exemplary principles of the World Kindness Movement, a member
of which it became about four years ago.
The avowed vision which the Pan-African Reconciliation Centre has been pursuing since then is to bring
about a society in which the spirit and letters of the Biblical Good Samaritan will be the rules rather than the
exception in the entire Nigerian society, with eventual extension to all humanity. Since Africa is not the only
continent in the universe, it seeks to align with like-minded people of all nations to ensure that this noble idea
will become commonplace. Luckily, the Canadian Kindness Movement came into the limelight as an
indispensable partner-in-progress.
Since its inception, the Kindness Movement in Nigeria has embarked on a good number of grassroots and
neighbourhood projects that involve both young and old people in nearly all sectors of Africa, and by eventual
extension, global society. First among this is the peace orientation and capacity building for kindergarten
children who are taught always to see the image of God in everybody, places and things. The motivation has
always been through games, role plays and little gift sharing. Youth camps are also often organized for the
senior students, particularly in the primary and secondary schools, to give them leadership training like that
offered by the Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and the Red Cross. |
