World Kindness Movement Conference 2005 (Parma,Italy)

[Joint Communique & WKM Agreement]

Date: 4-6 May 2005

Objective
To interact with international members of the World Kindness Movement and in doing so, further understand various kindness initiatives that have taken place worldwide. The Conference also seeks to deepen cooperation among the WKM members.

The World Kindness Movement currently boasts 17 members and the Conference will be a good opportunity for all to meet up and provide updates since the Third WKM Conference in 2000. The Conference will provide a platform for members to exchange information on the running of their Kindness Movements and this in turn will help to inspire others attending the WKM to start their own kindness movements or strengthen their existing ones back home and spread kindness worldwide. The previous conference in Singapore proved to be a great success and allowed for greater development of the World Kindness Movement and its activities.

Agenda
The Italian Kindness Movement in Parma , led by Dr Giorgio Aiassa is graciously hosting the upcoming conference. They have generously agreed to sponsor lodging and meal provisions for up to a maximum of 20 overseas delegates. Therefore, the main representative from each kindness movement will receive sponsorship while additional representatives will be responsible for the payment of their own lodging (the Italian side however, will make the necessary arrangements prior and will also provide meals).

The Italian Kindness Movement has been working hand in hand with the Singapore Kindness Movement which also acts as the World Kindness Movement Secretariat. The latter has been responsible for liaising with the various member countries and sending out invitations in the form of letters, emails and fax. Thus far, response has been highly encouraging. Many member countries have indicated their attendance and there is in general, great enthusiasm in meeting up. There has been active communication between both Kindness Movements. Both kindness movements have also been in cooperation regarding the actual agenda of the conference which includes a programme outline as well as salient discussion points. The Italian Kindness Movement has been very forthcoming and has already arranged an exciting lineup of activities to showcase the cultural aspect of their country – this includes a visit to the local Opera Theatre to watch Verdi’s “Ernani” as well as a visit to the Parmesan Cheese factory.
