Brazilian Kindness Movement
The Brazilian Quality of Life Association (ABQV) is a national non-profit organization that serves as an
information center on health promotion and quality of life in the workplace. It was founded in 1995 to
connect institutions and communities into a supportive network stimulating organizations to build health
promotion and quality of life programs and helping individuals to make better lifestyle choices.
The ABQV gives training seminars and is dedicated to helping organizations of all kinds build and sustain
results-oriented wellness programs. The Association annually recognizes companies that have the best
practices in promoting quality of life and wellness with the Brazilian Award of Quality of Life.
In June 2005, the ABQV joined as a national representative of the World Kindness Movement
(WKM) in order to inspire individuals toward greater kindness and connect nations to create a kinder world.
The WKM was introduced in Brazil at a national congress of quality of life and stress management, which
was joined in by more than 500 professionals. ABQV hopes to shift the perspective of corporations and
governments into a more expanded concept of what it means to be human. A most important aspect of the
kindness movement is its simplicity.
Carrying out acts of kindness creates a wonderful feeling inside. Kind intentions have a positive influence
on people and communities. The fact is that kind actions promote a sense of meaning and fulfillment in
both the giver and receiver. Although most people have kind feelings, this can take a secondary position
in our days. Everyday living makes people become distracted from the development of bettering their
social development. Society has neglected this matter.
ABQV’s thinking is that we should remember to practice kind actions spontaneously and contribute toward
more pleasant everyday living. The intention is to create a good environment in Brazil, fostering a greater
sense of connectedness between individuals, which leads people to work together in building a more
peaceful and compassionate world. |
