FOURTH WORLD KINDNESS MOVEMENT CONFERENCE
PARMA, ITALY 4-6 MAY 2005
30 delegates from ten countries have gathered in the City of Parma for the Fourth World Kindness Movement (WKM) Conference. The three-day Conference, hosted by the Italian Kindness Movement (Movimento Italiano per la Gentilezza) will be officially opened by the Mayor of Parma, Mr Elvio Ubaldi.
The Conference aims to raise international awareness about the WKM and its efforts to make this world a better one. The foreign delegates from Canada, India, Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Scotland, Singapore, Thailand and USA, are members of their own local kindness movements. The Conference provides the platform for WKM members to network, share experiences, chart future directives and explore new and creative ways to spread kindness worldwide.
WKM is consistent in its aim of spreading kindness to every corner of the globe by encouraging people to perform small acts of kindness. Equally consistent has been WKM’s goal of fostering goodwill and understanding in the world community, regardless of race, language, religion and nationality.
The revamped website of the WKM will also be launched at the Conference, a timely step forward to further spread the kindness message to the furthest corners of the globe, bringing love and happiness to this world that is currently fraught with disasters and conflicts. People from all over the world can subscribe to the monthly e-bulletin as well as obtain updates on the latest developments and activities of WKM and its member kindness movements.
About World Kindness Movement…..
The World Kindness Movement was initiated in 1997 by Japan together with seven co-founding members namely Australia, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, UK and the USA. WKM focuses on the promotion of kindness internationally and is made up of like-minded individuals from kindness movements around the world. 13 November has been earmarked World Kindness Day.
The mission of the WKM is to inspire individuals towards greater kindness and connect nations to create a kinder world. Members acknowledge the fundamental importance of human kindness as a basic condition of a satisfying and meaningful life. They pledge to work through individual networks of each member country to build a more compassionate world. The WKM encourages individuals of other nations to set up their own kindness movements. It also seeks other kindness movements to join the WKM.
Today, SKM has 18 members from 15 countries. The Singapore Kindness Movement acts as the World Kindness Movement Secretariat.
